SANE COURSE COMPLETION POLICY
Rationale
The Policy is designed to support students wishing to obtain the adolescent/ adult Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE A/A) certification. The goal for this policy is to encourage good study and work completion habits and to ensure content retention to successfully practice as a SANE. It reflects current completion deadlines and submission date procedures to receive your certificate. Failure to complete the course in ninety (90) days will result in (1)not receiving continuing education credits,(2) Not receiving a certificate of completion for SANE credentials (3)forfeit of course fee and/or (4) retaking course to receive SANE certification.

To outline clear expectations of student responsibility for their own learning;
- To promote fairness and consistency for all students
- To maintain standard procedures for students who work outside the guidelines of this policy.
Responsibilities
Course coordinator is responsible for:
- Setting clear, realistic deadlines so that all students can achieve success;
- Monitoring the progress of each student to assist them in submitting work by the required deadline;
- Act as an instructor and course content resource person and provide students instructional support
- Upon receipt and verification of completion of the clinical component, a certificate of completion will be issued to the student.
Students are responsible for:
- Shall complete both components (40 hour Didactic and clinical component) as set out in 201 KAR 20:411 Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program and Credential Requirements in order to obtain a Kentucky SANE Credential.
- Submitting all required documents (i.e. pretest, final examination, evaluations, clinical verification forms, etc.) by the due date and time as outlined.
- Ensure acknowledgement that coordinator has received the material that has been sent;
- Seeking the appropriate community resources to complete the clinical requirements.
- Shall obtain clinical practice supervised by a physician, a physician assistant, an Advanced Practice Register Nurse, or a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner until the student is deemed competent

Completion Policy
- Submitting original signed clinical verification forms to course coordinator for the (5) clinical components that may then be contacted for verification. This must occur to receive a clinical certificate.
- Applying and submitted required certificates (didactic and clinical certificate), background check and fingerprint, and all required cost to KBN. Course requirements:
- All students are expected to submit all required elements by the due date, course deadline is ninety (90) days from receipt of payment.
- Complete the 40 hour didactic instructional online course
- Submission of pretest, course evaluation, etc.
- Pass final examination with 80% or greater before a certificate of completion for the didactic portion of the training will be issued
- Complete the post didactic clinical requirements component for obtaining a SANE credential within 12 months from the last date of the didactic course
- Supervised comprehensive genital examinations, speculum insertions, visualization techniques and equipment
- Supervised mock sexual assault history taking and examination techniques
- Criminal trial observation
- Meet with Rape Crisis Agency/Advocate or Mental Health Professional specializing in the treatment of sexual assault survivors
- Ride along, or Meeting with Law Enforcement detective specialized in investigating sexual assault cases
- The attendee will seek the appropriate community resources to complete the clinical requirements and will submit documentation of those clinical hours through signatures by each agency’s representative who may then be contacted for verification.Â
Consequences of not meeting requirements:
- No continuing education credits will be awarded
- A certificate of completion for SANE credentials will not be presented
- Forfeit of course fee
- And/or repeating course to receive SANE certification with additional registration cost.
